In days gone by we only needed a very small coin to go to the picture theater at Pokeno Hall, the only taxi service was provided by Mrs Goodall, and the people were wonderful. Outside our window we used to see 400 cows. We once saw the night sky – a universe full of bright-stars. We understand now what “light pollution” means. Our green spaces have transformed. When we moved here, there were cows, sheep, pigs, and chickens that would cross the road freely. The Village was lovely and quite.
We started out as friends but now we are like whanau. We still have the last Golden Peach tree. Our business community is growing rapidly. Lets build us a Marae for our growing community from which we springboard services around Health & Well-being, Education, Environment, Housing, Employment, Papakainga and so on
In this video we share memories of how, in 2000, our town was temporarily renamed Jennifer-Anne dot com, memories of film crews on the main street and Helenslee Road land owners and Franklin District Council met to talk about intensive housing.
